Critical Annotated Webliography- Angela Ng

Q4) Is a cyborg queer? Discuss critical thinking on the intersections between sexuality and technology.

1)      Hamman, Robin (1996) “Cybersex Amongst Multiple-Selves and Cyborgs in the Narrow-Bandwidth Space of America Online Chat Rooms? ” http://www.cybersociology.com/files/cyborgasms.html ( accessed 30 September 1996)

This is a research paper about the cybersex and how they defined as cyborg. In this paper, the author has use the America online chat room AOL as an example and how they addicted to it.
Firstly, he talks about there are two form of cybersex which are people who have interactive masturbation in real time while they are online and the other one is they are telling sex stories on the internet space. The first form of cybersex is, the people will go to the chartrooms and describe what they are doing and masturbation at the same time.
The second form is, the people will tell the sex stories from real life in the internet, such as blog. In the research, he said that they are cyborg because they are tied with the computers and cannot live without it in the real life.
This is due to the reason of loneliness and they cannot find a real partner in their actual life. However, the research claims that we are not cyborgs all the time if we have quit those internet devices.
Furthermore, there is an identity problem and this is due to the problem of interactions between the technology and sexuality. The example will be people can switch their gender on chat rooms and they can be act totally different compare to their real life character.

This article is talking about the people fall in love in the internet or cyberspace and this is a new way of the interactions between human beings. Furthermore, it has not just changing the pattern of communication, sexual practices and cultures in the real life; it has changed the pattern of the sexuality and the definition of it.
It claims that this is the pure magic as there is no physical interaction between each other, as there is no touch or smell, you can just only imagine through the cyberspace. Also, in the article, it has showed that there are many different kinds of cybersex, for example telesex, camsex and the viral play through the chat rooms.
The reason for the people who love to have cybersex is, there is no risk and no cost or even this is very convenient. It is because you can just online and you can act what you like and you can do something you cannot try in the real life. So this is another reason why the people are being cybogs and cannot give up with this kind of device.

This short article is written by Dr. Maheu and this is talking about the relationships about how the cybersex is affecting the real life by using the Cyborg Theory. The basic concept of cyborg is introduced by Donna Haraway and this is about the combination of human beings with the technology devices. In the article has mentioned some people are using the technology device as a media to have the sexual activity, such as cyber sex and even addicted to it. Furthermore, the people are so depended on the cyber sex. Then, they have been cyborgs in some ways.
However, the article is trying to point out the boundary between humans and technology has been blurred. Furthermore, people in nowadays society are just confirming the relationships and trust through cyberspace. Therefore, they are using the cyberspace as a platform to perform their sex lives. So at the end, most of the people are not willing to build up real relationships and on the other hand, their relationships are full of distrust.

This article is about the phenomena of the increasing using the computer sex in nowadays society. In the article, it has mentioned Teledildonics is a term that about the internet sexual act. It claims that Teledildonics has been appear in novels or science fiction
It has criticized about why the people would like to perform this kind of sexual activities and why they will depend on this instead of having a real interaction with the others in the real time. Furthermore, it has criticized that the position between genders has been changed and the sexuality has been blurred according the development of the cybersex.

5)      Mano (2007) “Should Cyborg have sex? ” http://www.sociosite.org/love.php ( accessed 07 July 2007)

This is an article of the questions of can or should the cyborgs have sex. It talks about the sexual activities between human beings is to have the reproductive functions. So in the article, it has been questioned how about the sexual activities between two cyborgs as they are not real humans and they cannot perform the reproductive functions. Also, it has talked about this idea has been developed as an sexual performance in the cyberspace, and the human being are transformed as the cyborgs in this cyber platform.
  It is because you cannot perform reproductive activities in the cam sex or in the phone sex. It stated that in the real time, people can choose to be different genders as they can upload their own things on the chat room or website, so everything is very selective, which is totally different in the real life. Also, the people may not need to concern about the find a real partner in the actual life, as it is faster to find a lover in the internet.
