News Reflection by Ellis Wong

I have read a piece of news about cyborg on the Internet and the headline is “Cyborg-walkers stride toward Japan’s robotics future”. The news talks about three employees from a robotic company wearing the robot-suit and walking on a street in Tokyo.

The robot-suit is called “HAL”, which means Hybrid Assistive Limb. The suit was developed by Yoshiyuki Sankai, a professor of Tsukaba University in Japan. The robot-suit invented by him has already been leasing to several hospitals and nursing homes. Also, an order from Denmark has just been received by Yoshiyuki Sankai’s company.

The three employees mentioned in the news wore the suit and walked on a street in Tokyo in order to make their way to a robotics conference. They were actually testing the mobility of the suit so that it can be used by the injured and the disabled.

One of the employees said wearing the 11-kg (24-pound) outfit was not tiring at all. The three employees arrived at the building to the conference and they said they would take the stairs instead of the lift.

I think that becoming a cyborg is getting more and more common as the development in robotics is growing nowadays. Just like Japan as a fast ageing society, the robotic suit mentioned in the news is definitely needed because it can help the injured and the disabled elderly.
