News Reflection - Bobo Man

In these recent years, we always heard about cyberbullying which happened on teenage or below 18; cyberstalking is for adult. But what is cyberstalking? Cyberstalking is the use of the Internet or other electronic means to stalk or harass an individual, a group of individuals, or an organization. It may include false accusations, monitoring, making threats, identity theft, damage to data or equipment, the solicitation of minors for sex, or gathering information in order to harass. The definition of "harassment" must meet the criterion that a reasonable person, in possession of the same information, would regard it as sufficient to cause another reasonable person distress. (Bocij, 2004)

I then found a news from The Herald and the article is about a man who cyberstalked the victim and communicate to the victim repeatedly for the purpose of annoying, threatening, terrifying, harassing and embarrassing according to the arrest warrant; he then faces a charge from a magistrate. Yet, it is difficult to prosecute because it’s hard to tell who sent an electronic message; they can be some unlisted phone number and unregistered email account.

In my opinion, although the some of the ‘criminal’ had been prosecuted, there seem no threatening effects raised from the case because it’s difficult to tell who did it but at least, there were some law which related to the internet somehow can protect us. However, law can help us at certain extent; we cannot only rely on the law because the best way to avoid such thing happen is to try our best to protect ourseleves in order to reduce the chance of being cyberstalked. But it seems that the more convenient the internet is, the easier the case happen; so should the government take some action? I think... she SHOULD!
